Heroic Machines exists because three separate problems have the same shape. Finding a submerged vehicle means putting divers in cold, black water to search rather than to recover. Reaching a drowning swimmer means a guard swimming out and arriving exhausted. Working the deep ocean means either a tether or a very short visit.
In each case the limiting factor is a human body in the water. So we build machines that go instead: coordinated rather than remote-piloted, deployable by the crew who is already on scene, and designed to keep working when the link to shore does not.
The company is based in Keller, Texas, and works on inland water and coastline across the United States.
Charles Sieg
Founder
Charles has been building software since 1997. In 2008 he founded Renkara Media Group, Inc. in Chicago and shipped AccelaStudy on the App Store's opening day — the store's first language flashcards app. Renkara grew to more than 300 published apps and 30 million downloads, then spent the following decade turning into an AI and machine-learning engineering company.
That second act produced AVIAN, an adaptive learning engine, and a patent portfolio he is the sole inventor on: 49 filings and 1,158 claims across 302 distinct inventions, beginning with a provisional filed in October 2025. He is also a cloud architect who has built platforms and infrastructure for Fortune 1000 companies.
Heroic Machines is a separate company and a deliberate change of material — from software that adapts to a learner, to machines that adapt to water. The working method carried over.
AI-first, and not as a slogan
Every part of the pipeline that can be run by a model is run by one, with human judgment steering. It is why a company this size ships like a much larger one, and it is the same method that produced a three-hundred-invention patent portfolio in a year.
Autonomy over teleoperation
A machine that needs a continuous link is a machine that stops working at the worst moment. Ours hold their task locally and report when they can, because rivers, surf and deep water all break links.
Say the number or say nothing
We publish what a system does and what it is made of. Performance figures go out against a specific operating picture, because a coverage rate quoted in clear water is a lie in a silted river.
The person stays in the loop
HALO alerts a guard and never replaces one. CAST marks a target and a human decides whether to dive it. We are not interested in taking people out of decisions — only out of the water.
